IT may have a new home, but the 2014 Pakenham Show will be all about old fashioned fun.
The show will be held at the PB Ronald Reserve this Saturday including Living Learning Pakenham and the hall and library complex on John Street.
President of the Pakenham Agricultural and Horticultural Show Society Geoff Young said it was a show with a difference.
“For the first time in its history, a new era has come with free entry and we’ve split the show with the horses in November at Akoonah Park and the main body of the show – with all the animals, competitions and pavilion exhibitions this weekend,” he said.
“This is a new era of a long lasting, 103-year-old show where new ideas and focus have moved it into the 21st century.”
There will be rides, characters and entertainment as well as the old favourites like the gumboot throw, giant vegetable competition and a ferret race.
The show has been held at the Pakenham Racecourse for more than 50 years.
“I thank and congratulate the Pakenham Agricultural and Horticultural committee members, volunteers, the community and businesses who have overwhelmingly supported the new vision and change of one of their major icons in the Cardinia community,” he said.
“A vision in keeping with the agricultural and horticultural backbone and embracing the new multicultural aspect of the show.
“It’s where our community can showcase all their many and varied pursuits that we as a whole can promote in one spirit.”
Mr Young said the show would have free entry and he encouraged the community to support it.
“To make the show a success, we need the public to come and support it, and I look forward to seeing everyone there,” he said.
