Probe into funding, service delivery

Local government funding and service delivery is set to be scrutinised by the Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee.

The Upper House probe will assess local governments’ ability to deliver core services and the effects of cost shifting from state and federal governments to local council.

The sustainability of current revenue structures and alternative funding models for local governments will also be considered.

As part of the inquiry, public submissions have opened and are being accepted online.

“This is a chance for all Victorians to have their say on local government funding and service delivery,” committee chair Georgie Purcell said.

“Please make a submission via our website by Friday 28 June 2024.”

Submissions can be made at parliament.vic.gov.au/get-involved/inquiries/localgovernmentfunding/submissions

The Committee intends to hold public hearings and is expected to report to parliament by 28 November 2024.
