POLICE are pleased with a drop of thefts from cars across the shire, but continue to urge drivers to avoid complacency when parking their car.
Between Monday 4 May and Sunday 11 May, two cars were targeted by thieves and one car had its registration plates stolen.
An unlocked 2000 Toyota parked outside a home in Ivy Court in Beaconsfield was targeted by thieves between 9.30pm on Saturday 9 May and 2.30am on Sunday 10 May.
Personal papers and money were taken from the car.
The number of reported motor car thefts is down from previous weeks where more than one car was averaged as being broken into each day in late April.
Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Senior Sergeant Trevor Smith said it’s possible the declining number of thefts could be attributed to more people locking their parked cars and removing valuables from view.
“It’s an interesting significant drop over the last few weeks,” he said.
