LANG Lang Primary School recently conducted an audit of their health policies and introduced practical changes in an effort to encourage its students to maintain healthy lifestyles.
Principal John Legione said that encouraging students to walk or ride to school and revamping the lunch order menu were some of the changes made by the school as part of its involvement in Cardinia Shire’s ‘Healthy Together’ program.
Local school principals taking part in the initiative gathered for breakfast on Tuesday morning to talk about ways to promote health and wellbeing within Cardinia schools.
Hosted at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, it was the first time the inaugural event had been held.
“Schools are at the heart of our communities and can significantly impact the obesity epidemic we are facing”, council’s Health Promotion officer Julia Hobbs said.
Lang Lang Primary School works with parents to implement healthy habits among students and Legione believes events such as Tuesday’s breakfast are opportunities for schools to network and share ideas.
“We all share a common goal, so it’s important that we communicate,” Ms Hobbs said.
Hobbs echoed Legione’s comments, saying that schools have an important role to play in encouraging healthy lifestyles and that the council plans to continue the program.
“Hopefully, this breakfast was the first of many similar events, so we can all tackle health together.”
