MONEY and awareness will be raised through a five-cent piece campaign being organised through the Kylie Blackwood Foundation. Inner Wheel Club of Pakenham volunteers will be rattling tins on the streets of Pakenham on Friday 1 August to mark the first anniversary of Mrs Blackwood’s murder.
The mother of three was killed in her own home last year, with police so far unable to find her killer. While the five-cent coin drive is not expected to raise a fortune – all money raised will go to the White Ribbon campaign – it is hoped it will further highlight the issue of violence against women in the community.
Incoming president Alma Elliott said the Inner Wheel troops were eager to rattle tins and shake up people’s thinking on how they behave towards women.
“We want to call on all men to say this sort of behaviour is not normal and not acceptable,” she said.
The Inner Wheel women will congregate outside the Pakenham Newsagency on the morning of Friday 1 August, then walk around the streets rattling their five-cent tins, before leaving them with a designated business.
