Graffiti comments are a cover-up

Regarding Wayne Smith’s (Registering Interest, News, 16 January) comment on graffiti in Casey.
Cr Smith’s comment that “graffiti still occasionally appears in Casey” clearly shows he hasn’t spent much time out and about lately.
Take a drive along Magid Drive and check out the freeway overpass or along Josephine Avenue, Narre Warren, or even take a walk behind any of the sound barriers along the freeway or how about catching a train and enjoy the scenery.
Oh that’s right, UMS doesn’t touch any graffiti it deems to be the responsibility of another party eg VicRoads, Metro, nor does it pass on any reports to these other parties.
It’s time Casey Council reviewed its policy for rapid removal of graffiti.
Here’s some suggestions – have the contractor’s duties include other party notification, use council’s influence to have these other parties jump on the clean up wagon and include graffiti reporting as part of local laws employee responsibilities.
I don’t agree that Casey’s policy has worked at all.
To quote Cr Smith, “It has definitely helped clean up this city!”
I believe it is worse now than it has ever been.
Anton Kairys,
Narre Warren.
