Business is a fundraising star

A PEARCEDALE business was the state’s highest fundraiser for an initiative to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Small and medium businesses across the country joined forces and participated in a national campaign to support 25 years of the Starlight Children’s Foundation recently and raised more than $50,000 for the charity.
Hundreds of businesses showcased an experience, special deal or exclusive offer on group buying website LivingSocial and $2 from each deal sold was donated to the charity.
Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, run by Michael Johnson, contributed $812 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation from 406 sales.
The Pearcedale business was one of the leading contributors and raised the most funds of all Victorian businesses for the initiative, with its offer of more than 50 per cent off admission rates.
Starlight Children’s Foundation chief executive Louise Baxter welcomed the support from LivingSocial and its merchants.
“The support of the businesses such as Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park and the customers who purchased their specially created Starlight offer will go a long way to help us continue our work,” she said.
“Last year Starlight programs supported over 129,000 children in hospitals across Australia.
“Without donations like this, we would not be able to deliver our vital programs that support the wellbeing and resilience of Australia’s seriously ill children and their families seven days per week.
“We thank all who participated for their generosity during our 25th year.”
