Bicycle users group

THE first meeting of the new Bicycle users group will be held in Pakenham on Monday.
The new group is an initiative of Cardinia Shire Council for cyclists of all ages and abilities to connect with other users.
Pakenham resident Rob Castelow approached Council with the idea to form the Bicycle Users Group, and will lead Monday’s meeting.
Council’s Cardinia Active and Nutritious II facilitator Lauren Roberts said Council was pleased to be supporting the new Bicycle Users Group.
“We hope the Bicycle Users Group encourages more people to take up this fun and healthy pastime,” Ms Roberts said.
“The group will appeal to the Shire’s keen cyclists, who now have a way of regularly meeting with others who share their love of cycling. We also hope the group inspires residents who are interested in bike riding, but haven’t yet taken it up, to give it a go.”
The group, which will meet monthly, will organise regular rides on bike routes in and around the Shire, advocate for more cycling facilities, and host cycling and bike maintenance classes led by skilled facilitators.
Council’s Cardinia Active and Nutritious (CAN) II program, which is funded by the Federal Government, will run these classes.
The first meeting of the Bicycle users Group will be held from 7pm on Monday 1 July at Outlook Community Centre in Toomuc Valley Road, Pakenham.
