RESURFACING work at the Hampton Park and Doveton football and netball clubs will go ahead after a funding boost from both the Casey Council and the State Government.
Netballers will be able to play and train on safer courts after a $20,000 grant was announced from the State Government and Australian Football League.
At Casey’s council meeting on Tuesday, the council decided to allocate a further $33,650 to allow the upgrade works to go ahead.
Both clubs will use the grants to redevelop and resurface the netball courts at Robert Booth Reserve in Hampton Park and Robinson Reserve in Doveton.
River Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith said combining netball and football at the one club helped bring partners and families together.
He said it was also helping to bring more of a mixed crowd down to what was always traditionally a male-dominated sport.
The State Government grant is part of a $10 million Country Football and Netball Program.
Victorian Country Football League chief executive Glenn Scott said improved and modern facilities were crucial to vibrant, healthy and enjoyable sporting environments as they ensured the ongoing social and community values that formed the cornerstone of community life.
