Doveton fights to stay

DOVETON’S Turf 1 team, which has been fighting relegation in ninth position on the ladder, defeated Narre Warren by eight wickets at the weekend.
Doveton was left on 18 points, a game clear of bottom place. Matches against the third-placed Dandenong West and second-placed Parkfield are on the way and Doveton needs to continue to play well to escape relegation.

Doveton played Narre Warren at home in round nine. Narre Warren batted after winning the toss and made 9/123 after 40 overs. The best of the bowlers were Brad Polson (4/24), Brad Downe (3/7) and Corey Wilson (2/24). Doveton then passed the total set in 30 overs, finishing 2/125 and winning by eight wickets. Captain Ryan Hendy top-scored with 74 not out and Brad Downe scored 24.

Doveton played North Dandenong away, lost the toss and when asked to bat slumped to 7/61 when Dale Kilpatrick joined Mark Mott at the crease. After a partnership of 169, with three balls to go, Mott was out for a magnificent even 100, leaving Kilpatrick not out on 72. The score ended 8/235 off 40 overs. Doveton then bowled North Dandenong out for 111 off 30 overs. Matthew Miller took 2/33 and captain Troy Vugs 2/32 and Doveton won by 124 runs. Doveton was top of the ladder, three points clear of second place, and looked in a good position to finish on top.

Doveton played Maranatha Methodist at home and was sent in. Doveton was all out for 145 from 36 overs, Warren Ladgrove making 42. Seven batsmen scored over 10, but Ladgrove was the only one to make more than 15. Maranatha Methodist then batted and was 9/134 from their 36 overs. Shannon Roscoe was the pick of the bowlers, with 4/15. Doveton won by 11 runs. Doveton was on top of the ladder with 51 points, 18 clear of second place.

Doveton played Dandenong West away, won the toss and chose to field. After 36 overs, Dandenong West was 9/140. Ian Trenerry took 4/55 and Max Weston 3/32. In reply, Doveton was all out for 123 from 34 overs. Weston made 40 and Troy Jordan 21. Dandenong West won by 17 runs, leaving Doveton in ninth place.

At home against Fountain Gate, Doveton batted first and was dismissed for 89 off 39 overs. Shannon Roscoe top-scored with 32, Matt Stapleton made 22 and Troy Jordan 21. Fountain Gate then made 6/98 for victory off 37 overs. Jesse Ladgrove took 4/7 and Henwood 2/13.

Doveton played Fountain Gate away and Fountain Gate, batting first, was all out for 192 off 45 overs. The best of the bowlers were Robert Wind with 3/18 and Dilpreet Padda took 2/10. Doveton was then dismissed for 78 off 36 overs, Padda making 26. Fountain Gate won by 114 runs.

Doveton played at home against Hampton Park. Doveton batted first and made 150 off 39 overs. Shafraz Ali made 38 and Corey Smith made 28 not out. Hampton Park then batted and was all out for 76 off 29 overs. Ali took 3/13. Doveton in the second innings was all out for 51 off 15 overs and won by 74 runs on first innings.
