SOCCER-MAD residents are encouraged to put their views forward as the council decides the future of the world game in Cardinia shire.
As the sport increases in popularity, the council has joined with neighbouring Casey and Yarra councils to develop a regional soccer strategy.
Cardinia Shire Council community recreation officer Michael Haley said the aim of the project was to explore potential strategies for supporting the future development of the sport in each local government area and the collective region.
“The soccer is becoming popular and council wants to ensure it is planning for its future in the Cardinia Shire community,” he said.
“Meetings with key stakeholders, surveys and interviews will be carried out to gather input for the strategy by consultants.”
An on-line survey will also be provided on the council website as an opportunity for broader community input.
The development of the strategy is being carried out in partnership with Football Federation Victoria with the funding support from the Sport and Recreation Victoria. It is anticipated that a Draft Regional Soccer Strategy will be available for public comment towards the middle of the year.
Written submissions can be sent to Jayson Moran, Insight Leisure Planning, Suite 129/199 Toorak Road, South Yarra, 3141 or by emailing jm@insightleisureplanning.com.au before Friday 7 March.
