PAKENHAM residents have been encouraged to comment on a review of Cardinia Shire Council’s municipal strategic statement (MMS), which forms a vital part of the shire’s planning regulations.
The MSS sets out the council’s key land use, planning and development objectives.
It also details how these objectives will be achieved.
Councillors and shire officers must take the MSS into account when deciding planning applications.
The State Government requires the MSS to be reviewed every three years.
This review of the MSS is the first step towards undertaking a full review of the Cardinia Planning Scheme.
The review is not an amendment, but an opportunity for the council to recommend any changes or additional strategic work required to improve the performance of the planning scheme, and include any new issues and policies.
Council planners have prepared a draft discussion paper and a background report with recommendations for changes to the MSS.
Recommendations will be subject to input from the community and key agencies through a consultation process.
Documents are available for comment for a period of eight weeks at Pakenham Library, Cardinia Shire offices or online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au
Comments must be received by 31 October.
