GREENTHUMBED students at Beaconhills College have been busy feeding the local community.
A group of year nine students at the Pakenham campus recently donated bok choy, broccoli and silver beet to local food bank 4Cs.
The students have been growing the chemical-free vegetables as part of their horticulture elective as they learn about compost, ‘no dig’ gardening and organic vegetables.
They then donate their produce to a local community organisation.
4Cs administration manager Sue Friend was impressed by the students’ efforts, which kept the food bank’s veggie crisper full for more than a week.
“They made their garden bed from scratch,” she said.
“The silver beet lasted a week, the broccoli didn’t last as long but we still have some of the bok choy left.”
