GARFIELD GOLF

What a stunning week for golf at Garfield Golf Club with sunny mild conditions seeing good-sized fields taking part each day.

Saturday was medal day and attracted a great field of 163 punters eager for the contest.

The club went into a scurrying mode after Lachlan Chase had a round not seen at Garfield in many a year.

Chase posted a sensational 77 off the stick – nett 58 – off his soon to be adjusted handicap of 19 to easily get the win by a nine-shot margin from Pieter Van Der Horst, Matt McCormick and Tony Grayson.

I have been reliably informed that this equates to a six-shot handicap reduction for Mr Chase for his next round…an incredible stat indeed.

Other good rounds were posted by Tym Davey with a 70 scratch, 74 scratch by Ray James and 77 by Martin Lloyd.

A final score of nett 73 was the number to finish in the money which was achieved by some 42 players.

A total of 20 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 11th giving up five, whilst the 13th surrendered four.

Davey’s round of 70 gave him the A Grade: scratch win, Tony Grayson had the best with 82 for the B Graders, Chase dominated C Grade with his 77 and Willy Martin got the D Grade scratch with a score of 92.

Another good field of 116 took part in Thursday’s comp with a countback round of 32 points required to finish in the prize pool.

Matt Ross won the A Grade: event with 37 points whilst Matt McCormick made it a double victory for the week by winning the B Grade event with the day’s best round of 40 points.

George Gray broke a long run of outs to get the C Grade victory with a score of 37 points.

Bradley Hamilton scored an eagle three on the 10th while Ben Fitzpatrick became the first person in many a year to score a great eagle two on the 12th hole to go with his birdie on the very next hole.

A field of 69 turned out on Monday with Shaun McLean having the best of it by winning the B Grade event with a good score of 42 points.

Jim Accettura got the A Grade: victory with a score of 37 points.

A final score of 34 points was the number needed to finish in the money.

PENNANT FINALS

On Sunday all golfing roads led to Garfield for the three Premiers pennant titles up for decision including the scratch game contested by Drouin and Warragul which went down to the wire with Lachlan Bambridge getting over one of the best in Ryan Hammond to seal the victory 4 and 3.

Even with the team of Hammond, Mark Allen, Leon Cook (a multiple Garfield champion) Warragul came out on top.

Congratulations to Warragul.

The Handicap One Event was taken out by Churchill Monash posting a 4 and 3 win over the home team represented by Darren Grayson, Grant McLure, Harry Elyasie, Andrew Went, Doug Amos, John Hoare and Brian Webster.

It was a complete domination by our Handicap Two team represented by Gary Bassett, Bob Calderara, Ross Mitchell, Tim Sallai, Marty Atkins, Bob Collins and Jake Went who defeated Drouin 7 zip.

Congratulations to all players and special thanks to Cam and Kaye with the great service and food as well as the ground staff for the magnificent presentation of our course.

With a complimentary egg and bacon BBQ prior to tee off as well as a BBQ behind the 13th all players and spectators were catered for.

Bob Goldie, a West Gippsland Golf life member, was very impressed by the course presentation and commented that he had never seen our course in such magnificent condition.

Finally, thanks to all our players for making this day such a spectacular success.
