Turning back the clock at Taplins Road

The stories were flowing as thick and as fast as the beers at Taplins Road on Saturday as Catani celebrated the 20-year-anniversary of its 2004 premiership win over Buln Buln.

The leadership trio of coach Paul Alger, captain Michael Stockx and president John Fitzpatrick were all on hand to remember the memorable day at Longwarry, where the Blues kicked 18.15(123) to 6.14(50) to win the club’s first senior flag since 1992.

It was a huge day for John Fitzpatrick in 2004, with sons Owen and Shane being part of the winning team.

18-year-old Owen was named best on ground for his aerial dominance at centre half forward, while Brad McDonald and Chris MacLean kicked three goals each on a momentous day for the footy club.
