The February Monthly Medal went up for grabs at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday and one of the exciting young talents at the club took home the big prize on offer.

Coming off a B Grade win just two weeks earlier, Lyriq Bester (20) overcame showers of rain and some tough competition to take home the Monthly Medal.

Bester, a junior student of Teaching Pro Mark Shaw, shot 89 off the stick to card a nett 69 for a four-shot victory over Levi Sua (11) on nett 73.

Down the lines went to Michael Banger, Graeme Durran and another emerging junior at the club in Blaze Bester, who all carded nett 77.

Wednesday’s stableford competition saw a strong field take to the course and it was Chris McConnell (17) who handled the conditions best to score 40 points to win both A Grade and the best score for the day.

A former champion cricketer with Kooweerup, McConnell manoeuvred his ball beautifully around the course to score a three-shot win in A Grade over Darren Grayson.
