Golfers could not have asked for better weather conditions at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday with beautiful sunshine basking the fairways of Pakenham.

The great weather also brought out some great scoring with Grant Wilson (13) kicking off the summer months in impressive style by scoring 42 points to win A Grade by three shots from Dean Jones (9).

The B Grade competition was a much tighter affair with 11 golfers finishing within three shots of each other at the top of the leaderboard.

John Curtin (18) and Graham Brennan (27) did the best of the scoring, carding 36 points with Curtin winning on a countback.

Other players to have decent rounds included Brian Webster 35, Murray O’Dwyer, Mick Boyd and Nick Gray 34, and Brett Nowlan, Royce Thompson, Roger Parker, Mark Hatton and Leigh Cullen all with 33 points.

Nearest the pin on the 16th went to Anthony Kemsley (4m).

Rex Ryan (21) got the golfing week off to a flying start with a great round of 40 points good enough to win Monday’s stableford competition.

Runner-up David McMahon (11) also had a great round – scoring 39 points – while down the lines went to Stephen Northcott 37, Noel Bonne 36 and Les Jones, Tom McDermott and Ron Parsons with 34 points.

Nearest the pin on the 16th went to Bobby Edwards (3.92m).

The mid-week golfers were out in force on Wednesday to take part in a stableford event.

Club president Rob Nobelius (14) was at his imperious best, scoring 41 points to secure the main A Grade prize from the in-form John Curtin (19) who had 39 points.

Tom McDermott (25) had a comfortable four-shot victory in B Grade, scoring 39 points to defeat runner up Ron Parsons (27) on 35 points.

Down the lines went to David McMahon with 38 points, Murray O’Dwyer and Noel Bonne 36, and to Les Jones, Heath Barclay and Bill McDonald with 35 points.

The Supercomp Back 9 winner was Rob Nobelius with 23 pts, while nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Stephen Northcott (2m) and 16th Hole: David McMahon (0.70m).

And the golfing week finished up on Sunday with Bobby Edwards (18) being the only golfer to better his handicap, scoring 37 points for a one-shot victory over Nick Gray (7).

Down the lines went to Brett Nowlan 36 and Glenn Rees 35.
