Tigers and Hawks take the glory

Upwey-Tecoma and Monbulk were celebrating hard at the Belgrave Recreation Reserve on Sunday after claiming the two premierships on offer in Outer East Women’s football.

Upwey-Tecoma defeated Healesville by 40 points in the division one decider with a four-goal third term setting up the 7.5.47 to 1.1.7 victory.

Jess Occhipinti was the star for the Tigers, booting two goals in a best on ground display.

Alex Bantock, Ella Collard and Penelope Dousset were others to shine for the Tigers, who thrived this season in the five-team competition.

Danielle Carrucan kicked the only goal for Healesville, while ruck Paula Pavic and Amy Frazzetto fought the game out until the final siren.

And Monbulk enjoyed the best possible type of premiership, winning as underdogs against Belgrave in division two.

The Hawks were defeated by the Magpies in the second semi-final at Upwey a fortnight ago, but put the lessons learned to good use to score a 4.2.26 to 3.2.20 triumph.

The Hawks struggled at times throughout the year, but hit form at precisely the right time to hoist the premiership cup.

The Hawks had many good players on Sunday, with Maddi Dodd, Shania Turner, Molly Horne, Jade McCormick and Stacey Jolly all playing major roles in the victory, but it was Kath Gow who was the real hero.

Gow slammed home three of her team’s four goals, with Jennifer Pauw kicking the other.

The Hawks gained the decisive edge in the second term, kicking 2.0 to 0.1 after the Magpies held sway early.
