Joe Lenders lands championship after epic duel with Oliver

GARFIELD BOWLS

Well-known local sporting identity Joe Lenders has added another feather to his cap after taking out the 2025/26 Men’s Singles Championship at the Garfield Bowling Club.

Lenders took on Shane Oliver in the final, who had won the championship before, while Joe was out to break his duck in the event.

A warm sunny day at Garfield set the stage for the contest with the first player to reach 25 shots to be declared the champion.

Oliver bolted out the blocks and had a handy early lead before Lenders found his stride.

Lenders worked hard to bridge the margin, but still found himself three shots adrift as Oliver reached 23 shots; needing only two more shots to claim the title.

However, Lenders came home with a final surge, picking up the necessary five shots before Oliver could close out the contest.

Congratulations to Joe Lenders on becoming the Club’s Mens’ Champion for the first time.

May there be many more opportunities for each of them to show their outstanding talent.
