DEEP CREEK GOLF

Golfing royalty kicked off a big week at Deep Creek Golf Club last Monday with club president Rob Nobelius showing his disciples how to navigate their way around the course.

Nobelius (14) played a brilliant round of golf, scoring 40 points to finish three shots clear of Roger Parker (15) on 37 points.

Down the lines went to Tom McDermott 35, Alan Borch and Levi Sua 34, Noel Boyd 33, and Rex Ryan and Noel Bonne on 32 points.

Nearest the pins went to: 2nd Noel Boyd (12m) and 16th Rex Ryan (2.16m).

Another long-term member at Deep Creek followed Nobelius into the winners’ circle on Wednesday with Noel Bonne (14) finishing with a score of +2 to win A Grade by a solitary shot from Dean Jones (14).

Former baseball-slinger David Bell (24) won B Grade with a fine score of +2, two shots clear of the in-form Michael Banger (26) who finished square with the card.

Down the lines went to Pat Lloyd, Tim Pratt, Kougar Lloyd and Frankie Chiu with even-par rounds and to David Calderbank, Graham Brennan and Glenn Charles on -1.

The SuperComp Back 9 winner was David Bell with +3, while nearest the pins went to 2nd: Glenn Charles (2.9m) and 16th: Noel Bonne (1.87m).

The ladies took centre stage on Thursday with the playing of the July Monthly Medal, with Suzanne Van Strien continuing her great form to take home the top prize.

Van Strien (9) scored 33 points to narrowly defeat Delanie Lewis (13) who finished hot on her heels with 32 points.

Down the lines went to Leah Barker with 31 points and Kay Jones on 29.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Delanie Lewis (Birdie) and 16th Hole: Suzanne Van Strien (1m).

Congratulations also go to Deep Creek’s 2022 Silver Spoon Qualifier Shirley McGrath.

The golfing week came to a conclusion with a countback result in Sunday’s stableford competition.

The battle was fought out between two single handicappers with Heath Barclay (8) and Glenn Rees (9) finishing deadlocked on 35 points.

Barclay claimed the top prize with a superior back-nine to win via countback.

Down the lines went to Steely Mateariki 32, and Nick Gray and Matt Hogan with 31 points.
