Cardinia Shire Council is among a group of organisations and individuals to be nominated for the 2022 Victorian Health Promotion Awards.
VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio praised the work of the finalists who are making a difference across the state.
“The 36 finalists unveiled today have shown incredible commitment to the health and wellbeing of communities across Victoria in the past year,” Dr Demaio said.
“They have all played a big part in enhancing the health and wellbeing of their respective communities across Victoria.”
The shire was nominated for the Leading Health Promotion Research Award, a category acknowledging a Victorian researcher or team that has conducted invaluable health promotion research.
The research by the finalists have contributed to knowledge about what works to prevent chronic disease and improve the health and wellbeing of Victorians.
Cardinia was named as finalists for their work, titled Reimagining for a Food Secure Future in Cardinia Shire.
Their research highlighted household food insecurity across the shire and engaged with residents who have issues accessing food.
Two thousand households participated in the research to assess affordability and also review access to public transport, local healthy food outlets and access to food relief providers.
The research will help inform and guide services and programs delivered by Cardinia council and partners who are committed to the shire’s Liveability Plan and Community Food Strategy.
Other finalists for the category included Bendigo Health for their research, titled Making every consultation count, and Monash University’s research, titled Health4Her.
Dr Demaio said the finalists deserve recognition for their “extraordinary work” and he hopes their work will inspire others.
“The 2022 Victorian Health Promotion Awards are the perfect platform to showcase the great work happening in health promotion, and to inspire others to do the same,” Dr Demaio said.
