A BERWICK dad who accidentally impaled himself on a steel pole was rushed to hospital and is lucky to be alive.
The man was trying to jump over the back fence of his Princes Highway property to fetch a wayward ball for his children when he slipped and impaled himself on the pole last week.
The man was rushed to The Alfred hospital just after 6.30pm on Friday 22 May and is in a stable condition.
It’s believed the steel pole pierced through the man’s thigh and was thrust into his upper body.
