LAKESIDE College’s human powered vehicle team received a welcome boost earlier this month in the form of a donation from DVJS Employment Solutions.
On Monday 18 May, DVJS Community Liaison Emma Boonstra visited the school to present a cheque for $200 to go towards the project, which challenges students to build and race vehicles completely from scratch.
“We’re all about getting kids into employment after school, and we like to do what we can to support them while they’re at school and make them aware of options when they finish,” Ms Boonstra said.
“They’re a great community school, and we were happy to help them out with this.”
Lakeside College will field two teams at the 24 hour “RACV Energy Breakthrough” to be held in Maryborough this November. The teams are comprised students from Years 7-12.
Formerly Dandenong Valley Job Support, DVJS has been assisting jobseekers with disabilities in the Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia areas since 1993. They have worked with many local employers to find suitable candidates for vacant jobs.
The Lakeside College HPV team is still looking for sponsors. Inquiries should be directed to Mr Damien Anderson at the college.
