Moore ‘informed’ councillor

By BEN CAMERON

OUTGOING Cardinia Shire Council mayor Graeme Moore was close to tears as he thanked his wife for her unwavering support over the past 12 months.
With a new mayor to be announced at a statutory meeting on 10 November, Cr Moore made an emotional farewell at his final council meeting, saying family support had got him through the difficult periods.
“Without her I wouldn’t have got through this,” he said.
“I’m getting a bit emotional.
“I’m going to miss it. It’s been an honour and a privilege.
“I’ve become a more informed councillor.”
He said it had been an honour to welcome new citizens to the shire and joked that some new residents may have thought he was the king of Cardinia dressed in his mayoral robes.
“They think you’re the king … King Graeme,” he laughed.
Cr Moore said a highlight of his tenure was a visit by the Governor of Victoria on 9 October.
“It was a fantastic day, it’s the only day I’ve gone without swearing,” he said.
“And it took me all day to work out which team he barracked for. He’s a Carlton supporter.”
Cr David Young said Cr Moore’s “infectious enthusiasm” had rubbed off on the Governor during his visit.
