Deferral not refusal

PLANS for a medical and child care centre on Pakenham Road are on hold after a Cardinia Shire Council meeting on Monday night.
An application for the facility was deferred by Cardinia Shire Councillors.
Council officers recommended to refuse the planning permit describing it as an “over-development of the site” in the report.
Cr Jodie Owen put forward an alternate motion at the meeting for the decision to be deferred.
She said she wanted the applicant to work with the planning department.
“In this application there were numerous issues picked up by the planning department, it’s my belief to show other businesses and other people coming to Cardinia that the best thing to do here is for them to go away and make some amendments to what they are proposing instead of just issuing a flat out refusal,” Cr Owen said.
“It’s showing them that the council is willing to work with businesses who want to invest here.”
In July this year, the News reported that the property might be bulldozed to make way for the centre in a move that had angered some residents nearby.
One resident, who did not want her name used, was concerned for the local history of the house.
She said the 100-year-old garden and original farmhouse used to be home to a dairy farm.
Cr George Blenkhorn seconded the motion and it was supported by councillors.
