Spring for young at heart

TRAINER Tom Scanlon delivered a great result with family-owned eight-year-old mare Jeune De Coeur winning the Dwyer’s Volkswagen 0-58 over 1200 metres in fine style in Bairnsdale on Tuesday (last week).
Jeune De Coeur returned from a spell on Guineas Day at Pakenham only three days earlier.
The mare ($9) jumped well and sat in fourth place in the early running before making a positive move to sit outside the leader around the 600-metre mark. She then surged to the lead on straightening and ran hard to the line to win very well, taking her record to seven wins, four second-placings, five thirds and $92,000 in prize money from 60 starts.
There is plenty of local racing taking place over the coming weeks, with Pakenham holding its Relocation Race Day on Tuesday 29 October with free entry to all. That will be quickly followed by the Pakenham Gazette Oaks Day on Thursday 7 November, one of the biggest race days on the local calendar.
Pakenham Racing Club has advised that there are a limited number of hospitality packages still available, so those considering heading to the races on Oaks Day should give the club a call on 5941 1207, or visit www.pakenhamracing.com.au.
