Chopper joins chase

By DANIELLE GALVIN

A POLICE helicopter joined the search for a stolen car early on Tuesday morning.
Residents near Henry Street, Dunbarton Drive and Racecourse Road heard the helicopter and a fleet of police cars just after 1am.
Some took to Facebook to question the police chase and the need for the helicopter.
Stacey Ann Watkins asked why there was a helicopter in town.
“It’s been going about 10 minutes now my windows rattled, always gives me the creeps hope all is okay,” she wrote.
Acting Senior Sergeant Pat McGavigan said police spotted the stolen car in Henty Street at about 1am.
“A pursuit was initiated south on Racecourse Road then east on the Princes Freeway,” he said.
“The vehicle then returned to Pakenham CBD.
“Offenders left the moving vehicle and it rolled into a drain at the intersection of Dunbarton Drive and Racecourse Road.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 5945 2500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
