No knocking keen support

ADVOCATES for the reinvigoration of the Cardinia Shire’s Neighbourhood Watch program have been out in force in the community.
Organiser of the program Phil Taylor said the group handed out flyers and information to residents at the Pakenham Marketplace and were also at the opening of the Arena Shopping Centre in Officer last week.
Councillors were also quick to show their support for the shire’s Neighbourhood Watch Program.
On Saturday, mayor Brett Owen went down to the marketplace to encourage residents to come along to the community meeting next week.
At a council meeting on Monday night, he said there were no groups like it in the shire after some had disbanded over the years.
He said with the support of Victoria Police residents were hoping to get the program back up and running in the shire.
“I would encourage residents interested in the program to attend the meeting next week,” he said.
Mr Taylor said he hoped businesses would support the call for the program in the shire. He said he hoped the program would be as successful as Casey’s.
“It’s about keeping an eye out, working with the community,” he said.
Residents are invited to attend the meeting at the Pakenham Police Station on Princes Highway on Wednesday 24 July, at 7.30pm.
