Sensational night for 48th Cup

By David Nagel
ALL roads lead to Cranbourne this Saturday night as harness racing takes centre stage with the running of the Group One $100,000 Decron Cranbourne Pacing Cup (2555m).
Whether you’re a keen racing enthusiast or just looking for an entertaining night out, the 48th running of the region’s biggest race will deliver in spades under the brightest lights in town.
The race itself promises to be a beauty with last year’s winner Im Themightyquinn returning to defend the crown he won in a race record mile rate time of 1:57.4.
The excitement that such a big race brings to the area has not been lost on David Scott, Cranbourne Harness Racing’s chief executive officer. He and his team have put together a night full of entertainment for people of all ages.
Former Hawthorn and Carlton player Daniel Harford will be front and centre with his SEN colleague Jason Richardson, as they play host to guests in the SEN lawn enclosure.
A $35 ticket will buy entry into the SEN enclosure and include a barbecue meal, their first drink free, a massive $1000 cup sweep for enclosure patrons only and cover band Sensation will be playing throughout the night.
The night has all the ingredients to match last year’s event which was recently judged Harness Racing Victoria’s Country Cup of the Year.
Scott hopes the SEN duo will help the club build on the outstanding success of last year’s meeting.
“Regular SEN listeners will be familiar with Harf and Richo and I know they are looking forward to coming to Cranbourne and hosting our guests in the SEN lawn enclosure,” Scott said.
“The boys are great fun and will be talking not only harness racing but sport in general during the night. We’ll mix that up with live music and of course Group One harness racing action to give patrons a super night out.”
The SEN boys won’t have all the lawn to themselves; there will be plenty of room left on the fabulous lawns to enjoy a picnic under the stars.
There will be loads of free activities for the children, including a jumping castle, giant slide, chair-o-plane and animal farm. Santa Claus is also making an appearance.
Gates open at 5.30pm and the first of nine races starts at 7pm with the last at 11pm. Contact the club on 9596 8677 for more details.
