A NARRE Warren South resident has questioned the council’s spending after a newly landscaped park was recently vandalised.
Narre Warren South resident Jill Renwick said she and some of her neighbours were wondering what the Casey Council was trying to achieve when they landscaped the park on the corner of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Glasscocks Road in Narre Warren South.
Ms Renwick said it was a terrible design and a waste of ratepayers’ money.
“It’s a mound of dirt and they put steps on it, then they planted over 100 plants,” she said.
“When they opened up the park, all the plants were destroyed because kids can climb on it. It was a waste of money.”
Casey’s parks and reserves manager Trevor Griffin said it was disappointing when new facilities that were built for the enjoyment of the local community were vandalised.
A total of $102,000 was allocated towards the construction of the climbing mound, planting, fencing, new garden beds and drainage, but the landscaping would not be completed until early next month.
Additional works will include the upgrading of drainage to the existing central area, new garden beds in the central area and along the western boundary.
Mr Griffin said the plants would be replaced and a temporary fence installed to protect the garden beds from vandalism.
