Respectful

STUDENTS at Doveton Heights Primary School rang in the new school year last week with a special ‘Celebration Day’ to promote teamwork among students.
Assistant principal Jason Walker said Camp Australia and school staff had supervised fun activities designed to stimulate teamwork, organisation and group dynamics among students.
He said the newest members of the Doveton Heights school community — the preps — and returning students had all begun the 2006 school year discussing their ‘rights and responsibilities,’ and completing individual Student Code of Conduct booklets.
Mr Walker said as well as rewarding students for their efforts this year, Celebration Day launched the school’s new values — Resilience, Endeavour, Success, Persistence, Expectations, Confidence, Teamwork — “RESPECT”.
He said these values were used in activities such as tug-of-war, ghita boards, sack races and ball games.
“The biggest smiles suggested the favourites were the parachute games and the earthball,” he said.
“For most, the highlight of the day was being able to climb to the top of the giant earthball, a feat that many initially thought was too hard.
“However, with the encouragement of staff and friends, students were able to use RESPECT to conquer this and other challenges on the day,” he said.
