Mixed fortunes for bowlers

CRANBOURNE bowlers produced good performances over the weekend but not all teams could realise victories.
The Division 1 side fell three shots short of victory in Metro Pennant Bowls after a close, exciting match with Cheltenham.
Ron Lyfield and his team were in fine touch and their aggressive bowling gave them a 14-shot win. Cranbourne dropped the other three rinks, which all featured tight finishes. Scores: Cranbourne 91-Cheltenham 94. R. Lyfield 34-20, L. Quigg 19-25, B. Gay 17-22, A. Mickle 21-27.
Cranbourne (2) met ladder leader Berwick, but the home green didn’t help and the home team was outbowled to the tune of 33 shots.
The consistent Ray Travica and his team led the way with a great 10-shot win and Glen Imeson’s team was in brilliant touch early but lost by six shots over the final ends. Scores: Cranbourne 86-Berwick 119. R. Travica 29-19, G. Imeson 29-35, S. Burnett 13-34, W. Ballard 15-31.

Cranbourne (4) visited Glen Waverley in the battle for second position on the ladder, but was outplayed by 17 shots. Cranbourne won two rinks but big losses on the other two resulted in overall defeat.
Scores: Cranbourne 86-Glen Waverley 103. A. Dennis 28-25, L. Stephens 28-23, I. Badger 17-27, J. MacInnes 13-28.
Cranbourne (5) ensured top position with a 33-shot win over Burden Park in a solid team performance. Cranbourne won three of the four rinks with some great shot play, which should give the team some confidence for the finals. Scores: Cranbourne 109-Burden Park 76. K. Davies 30-18, F. Hopper 30-18, R. Sorensen 28-13, W. Plumbe 21-27.
