MANY school children were in attendance last Thursday when the Endeavour Hills community came together to commemorate Anzac day.
Held at the war/peace memorial on Heatherton Road, the inaugural event was dubbed by Casey deputy mayor Rob Wilson as a huge success.
Cr Wilson said it was great to see so many school-aged children involved.
Students from the St Paul Apostle South choir sang the National Anthem and O God, Our Help in Ages Past, and students from the Gleneagles campus of Eumemmerring College gave out poppies during the moving ceremony.
Other schools placed wreaths and all students had a part to play in the ceremony.
Cr Wilson said the Dandenong RSL had heavily supported the event and Holt MP Anthony Byrne, Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan, Casey mayor Kevin Bradford and former councillor Roland Abraham attended.
The deputy mayor said it was pleasing to see former City of Berwick mayor and war veteran Doug Miles in attendance and showing his support for the memorial.
“It is difficult because RSLs in Berwick, Cranbourne and Dandenong all have their own services on Anzac Day so we instead hold our service among the schools and bring the young community together,” Cr Wilson said.
“This helps teach the young people of Endeavour Hills the importance of the day and passes the Anzac tradition on to a whole new generation.”
