Librarians are all heart

By Rebecca Fraser
MORE than 40 chocolate lovers descended on Doveton Library on Valentine’s Day to sample some decadent treats and enjoy a blind date with a book.
The officer in charge at Doveton Library, Sandra Cochrane, said the event gave people the opportunity to “spoil themselves” on Valentine’s Day.
Book lovers joined the author of Spoil Yourself: A Chocoholic Guide To Melbourne, Suzie Wharton, for a lively discussion about her book and chocolate.
There were chocolate samples to tempt the taste buds of avid sweet-tooths, as well as morning tea.
Ms Cochrane said this was the first time they had held the event at Doveton, but chocolate lovers at Pakenham Library had enjoyed a similar taste-testing experience last year.
“Everyone likes chocolate and I thought it would be very fitting to hold it on Valentine’s Day,” she said.
Ms Cochrane said some book fans also took a risk when they chose a new release book as part of the ‘take a blind date with a book’ promotion.
“The books were all wrapped up and those brave enough chose one and borrowed it,” she said.
Ms Cochrane said the books came from all different genres and some readers would be in for a surprise.
The event attracted mainly women, with only two male chocolate fans coming along and taking part in the morning’s fun activities.
