CASEY Cardinia league best and fairest award-winner Beau Miller from Tooradin celebrated his triumph in good company at the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (MPNFL) vote count dinner at Mornington Racecourse on Monday night.
Miller’s six-vote win from Doveton rover Michael Henry in the 2007 Norm Walker Medal count highlighted the evening at which individual awards were presented in all grades of the three MPNFL competitions.
The former Tooradin junior, who also had stints at Devon Meadows and as a Springvale midfielder, crossed from the Scorpions to the Seagulls at the start of 2005, but a string of bad luck including a broken wrist and knee ligament damage, combined to keep Miller out of action for most of the last two seasons.
He also had a health scare after being diagnosed with a form of cancer after last season, but immediate treatment saw him back in full training with the Seagulls at the start of the year.
Miller received five votes in the last two rounds of the season to win the award with 26 votes from Henry, while Pakenham playmaker Jared Goldsack was third with 19 votes.
The Casey Cardinia reserves best and fairest vote count saw Doveton veteran Mark Mott, with 26 votes, score a six-vote win from ROC counterpart Kable Dowsett.
Devon Meadows teenager Callum O’Hare had a six-vote victory in the under-18 count, scoring 21 votes and taking out the award from Chris Potalej from Narre Warren.
Goal-kicking awards were won by Narre Warren’s Brett Evans (72 goals) in the seniors and team-mate Domenic Larosa (57) in the reserves, while Pearcedale spearhead Daniel Murray won the Nepean league reserves award with 67 goals.
