Horse of the Year Master Harley pictured winning at Cranbourne in 2006-07.LOCALLY trained four-year-old Master Harley has secured this year’s Cranbourne Harness Racing Club’s Horse of the Year Award.
In something of a rarity, Master Harley raced exclusively at Cranbourne during the 2006-07 season, registering five wins and a further three placings from 10 starts at the track.
Raced by Cranbourne Harness Racing Club members Barry Thompson, John McLeish and Don Collins, Master Harley has built an impressive record and at season’s end had amassed almost $120,000 in just 27 lifetime starts.
The Barnett Hanover gelding defeated stablemate Benditlikebekam and the Ted Demmler-trained Crafty Dennis for Horse of the Year honours.
Clyde mentor Jayne Davies, who prepares Master Harley, was rewarded for a successful season with yet another home track Trainer of the Year Award, while stable driver Chris Alford was a clear winner of the Driver of the Year Award.
Alford, who hails from Bolinda, drove 28 winners and a further 63 placings from 184 starters to defeat Jodi Quinlan and Craig Demmler.
The Concession Driver of the Year Award at Cranbourne for 2006-07 was won by leading junior Greg Sugars.
This year’s awards presentations will coincide with the club’s next feature meeting this Saturday.
