THE City of Casey has won a prestigious national award for its innovative work with indigenous affairs.
Victorian Senator Mitch Fifield congratulated Casey this week after the city won the Strengthening Indigenous Communities category award in the 2007 National Awards for Local Government.
“I congratulate the City of Casey on their achievement in the prestigious national awards. They have done a great job and made us all proud. There were 287 entries from all around Australia,” Senator Fifield said.
The National Awards for Local Government have been going since 1986. They are only awarded to councils for projects that are judged by experts to be the best or most innovative in their field.
They also promote the councils and projects to other councils around Australia so that local government capacity is built up around the country.
The National Awards for Local Government are administered by the Australian Government Department of Transport and Regional Services.
