IN response to high demand in Casey for speech pathology and physiotherapy, $949,000 will be spent on expanding local community health services.
The Cardinia-Casey Community Health Service will use the home and community care services funding to expand its physiotherapy and speech pathology services at its centres in Berwick, Cranbourne, Doveton and Pakenham.
Carol Fountain, director Cardinia-Casey Community Health Services, said demand for speech pathology and physiotherapy was extremely high and the new funding would help address the increased need in both municipalities.
Ms Fountain said the funding would help pay for more staff and extend service hours.
“There is a real deficit in these services and this will allow us to expand our service to the community,” she said.
The funds will help people with swallowing disorders, help stroke victims improve their speech and Ms Fountain said both elderly and young disabled people would benefit.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan welcomed the State Government funding and said it would help older people and those with disabilities to live independently at home.
“It will help frail older people and those with disabilities to remain active and socially connected,” Mr Donnellan said.
