Big Sister is coming

THE Big Brother reality television show may be over for 2007 but Big Brothers Big Sisters Casey (BBBS) continues to build momentum.
And BBBS will have its very own television flavour next week when former Big Brother housemates Hayley and Andrew take part in a fundraising fashion parade at Casey Aquatic and Recreation Centre (ARC).
Hayley is a current Big Sister with BBBS Melbourne so as well as modelling the latest swimwear and sports fashion – alongside her boyfriend Andrew – she will speak briefly about her experience of being a Big Sister.
BBBS Casey is a YMCA community funded program based on the simplicity and power of friendship.
Adult volunteers are screened and matched with vulnerable young people, aged between seven and 17, and help build a friendship and act as a positive role model and mentor for them.
The program has had some stunning success with more than 30 matches currently operating in Casey.
However, there are more than 40 youngsters still waiting to be matched with a suitable Big Brother or Big Sister.
Director Rebecca Wolstenholme said any support for the program from businesses or individuals would make a huge difference in the life of a child.
She said the Interact Foundation had recently donated $1800 to assist with BBBS activity days.
“We are so appreciative of this support from the Interact Foundation,” she said.
“It is businesses like this that will determine how successful we can be at meeting the needs of the young people in our community.
“It is our dream that every young person without a positive role model in their life will be given the opportunity to have one. We want these children to look back one day and be able to remember someone who impacted on their life and believed in them, someone who made a difference,” Ms Wolstenholme said.
An open invitation has been extended to the community to come along and support the fashion parade, which will be held at Casey ARC on Friday, 31 August at 8.30pm.
A $5 entry fee will be charged for adults, and children will be admitted for a gold coin donation. There will also be special prizes and wine tasting on offer for those who venture out.
