THE City of Casey brought the curtain down on the fourth annual Winter Arts Program in grand style last weekend with a Winter Arts Finale at the Cranbourne Community Theatre.
Mayor Neil Lucas said the council was proud to have hosted the Winter Arts Program and it was committed to providing arts opportunities for the community to enjoy.
“The Winter Arts finale was attended by more than 250 people and was very successful,” he said.
“The event celebrated Casey’s diversity through music and dance.
“With more than 100 languages other than English spoken in Casey, it’s not surprising that the performers were from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, including Filipino, Salvadorean, Turkish, Sudanese and Indian.”
The finale, held last Sunday, featured colourful and vibrant performances by The City of Casey Pipe Band, Likha Pilipinas Dance Assembly, Maya Dance Group, Mt Hira College, Shivalayam Nadanalaya, The Shamaan Band Eastern Nuer Dance Group, Celtic Feet, and Teagan McGregor.
With something for all tastes and ages, the diverse program included exhibitions, musical concerts, free ‘come and try’ art and craft workshops at Casey’s community houses and learning centres, theatre performances, the opportunity to see Casey’s artists at work in their own studios in the Artists’ Open Studios weekend.
“Casey is home to a thriving arts community which has certainly been highlighted in this year’s Winter Arts Program,” Cr Lucas said.
“The program has been a great initiative as it has encouraged others to try something different and to learn more about arts and culture.”
