Arson attackers go on fire spree

TWO weekend arson attacks in Berwick have left a repair bill of thousands of dollars and have sparked a police investigation.
In the latest incident on Sunday night, a vehicle was recklessly driven around a park in Marlesford Crescent before being set on fire.
Emergency services were alerted about 11pm to the blaze and fire crews from Berwick CFA were quickly on the scene to douse the flames.
The vehicle, a Daihatsu Mira, was destroyed in the blaze.
On Saturday night, Berwick Fire Brigade crews were called out to a large waste bin on fire at the rear of the Parkhill Plaza Shopping Centre in Parkhill Drive at 10.45pm.
Paper and cardboard in the bin had been deliberately set alight and the bin was damaged by the blaze that also scorched the outside of a building.
It was the second similar fire at the shopping centre in the past fortnight and the third suspicious blaze in the area over recent weeks. Police were called in and are investigating.
