Complaint over pamphlet- Karen Parsonage was not happy to find a graphic anti-abortion leaflet

PAKENHAM residents Kellie Knight and Karen Parsonage have launched an official complaint after they received graphic anti-abortion pamphlets last Saturday.
The pamphlet was distributed by the Tell The Truth coalition, the same group reported to be behind the abusive emails sent to MPs as they debated the Abortion Law Reform Bill in Parliament last week.
“I had my nine-year-old stepson with me, and I usually ask him to get the mail. I don’t know why, but this time I went and got it myself,” Ms Knight said.
“I nearly vomited at my letterbox.”
The pamphlet, which is not contained in an envelope, has a series of graphic images showing a late-term abortion.
The pamphlet also asked people to contact their local MPs and urge them to vote against the Abortion Law Reform Bill.
“It doesn’t matter what my opinion is, it hasn’t got me to ring my local politician. It’s got me against this group,” Ms Knight said.
“My nine-year-old son still wouldn’t be able to sleep if he was the one to see it.” Ms Parsonage said she was horrified to find the pamphlet in her letterbox after receiving other graphic materials from the same group earlier this year. “You can’t avoid it if it’s in your letterbox. If I had been through a miscarriage or something like that, it would be even more disturbing,” she said.
Both women have lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Bureau.
The Tell The Truth coalition did not answer inquiries made by the Pakenham News by the time of going to press.
