‘Bus’ popular on Walk to School Day

Pakenham Hills Primary School students from grades one to six, Ashley, Joel, Stephanie, Sam, Jai, Phoebe, Abby, Courtney, Mark, Tahlee and Ben, formed a walking school bus for Walk to School Day.Pakenham Hills Primary School students from grades one to six, Ashley, Joel, Stephanie, Sam, Jai, Phoebe, Abby, Courtney, Mark, Tahlee and Ben, formed a walking school bus for Walk to School Day.

STUDENTS from two Pakenham primary schools took part in Walk to School Day on Tuesday, 27 March.
Students from Pakenham Hills Primary school and St Patrick’s Primary School took part in the day, which encourages students to walk to school.
They were some of many children across Cardinia Shire that participated in the annual day.
Some students opted to walk with friends or parents instead of getting a ride to school in the car, and some joined a Walking School Bus.
The Walking School Bus Program is funded by Vichealth and administered by Cardinia Shire Council. It involves volunteer parents leading children to and from school along a prescribed route.
Council Walking School Bus officer Kellie McDougall said along the way the students stopped to pick up more walkers.
Cardinia Shire mayor Kate Lempriere joined in the day, travelling on a Walking School Bus to St Patrick’s Primary from the highway side of the railway line on McGregor Road.
Walking School Buses in term time operate at Emerald, Garfield and Beaconsfield primary schools.
For more information on how to catch the Walking School Bus, timetables and stop locations, as well as volunteering to get the buses on the road, contact Cardinia Shire Council’s community services Walking School Bus officer Kellie McDougall on 5945 4314.
