Safetyfirst approach for reserve fun day

COMMUNITY safety education will be top of the agenda when the churches of Pakenham join Cardinia Shire Council, CFA, Victoria Police, Vic Roads and the SES, to host the Cardinia Road Safety Expo and Pakenham Free Family Fun Day on 22 October, from 10am2pm.
The fun day is at the PB Ronald Reserve, on the corner of John and Henry streets, Pakenham.
The community is invited to join in the fun with activities including giant snakes and ladders games, stilts and walking planks.
Kids and the young at heart can have their faces painted as road signs or perhaps a tiger or a fairy while enjoying live music, a sausage sizzle, Devonshire teas, and kids’ crafts.
The event also encompasses the Cardinia Road Safety Expo, Cardinia Shire Council’s popular annual event with demonstrations of the Jaws of Life by the CFA, displays from VicRoads and the TAC and a visit from the Police helicopter.
Free child restraint safety checks will be available and children are encouraged to bring their bikes and see how fast they can run or ride, as measured by SAM, the speed monitor.
“The event combines the opportunity to enjoy a fun, free day out, as well as learn about road safety,” Cardinia community liaison officer Lenoar Gullquist said.
Coorganiser Andre Van Eymeren, of Big House Communities, said the churches were happy to join council and the emergency services to provide a day of free fun and information.
“We’re looking forward to providing an opportunity for families to enjoy time playing together and meeting old and new friends.”
The event is part of Community Safety Month.
