GARFIELD GOLF
Garfield’s most consistent golfer Karli Van Der Horst would like to roll up the fourth hole and take it home after scoring her second hole in one on the par-three in just 18 months.
Adding to the highlight reel this week was John Wise who had a hole in one on the ninth to make it a busy week for the trophy engravers.
Well done to Karli and John on their great achievements.
Saturday’s Monthly Medal was played in brilliant sunny late autumn weather with a field of 152 punters turning out.
Just a total of eight players were able to either beat or play to their handicap for the day.
Tim Jeffrey did best with his medal-winning round of 90/nett 65 to defeat David Carricondo, a new name, by a countback decision.
The A Grade scratch was won by Chris Thorn with his 68, whilst Colin Crowle had the best scratch for B Grade with his 80.
David Zaffarese did best for the C Grade field with his round of 90 whilst Jeffrey got the double also winning the D Grade scratch with his 90.
A final score of nett 74 was the number to feature in the prizemoney.
There were the two eagles scored for the day, firstly by Ashley Greig on the par-four second and also by Ross Mitchell on the much harder par-four fifteenth.
Greg Nicholls had his irons dialled in, scoring a pair of nearest the pins on the 8th and 11th holes for his round.
Once again on Thursday the weather was spectacular for this time of the year with a good size field of 113 presenting for a game of stableford.
Scores were well down on the usual which is hard to explain why with the conditions being excellent for scoring.
Just the eight players finished either equal to or better their mark for the day.
Steve Wallace broke a run of outs to clearly finish at the head of the field for the day by getting the A Grade victory with his 39 points.
A score of 37 points was the best in for B Grade whilst the veteran Alan Borch won the C Grade event by a countback from Pat McDonagh with his 37 points.
A final countback round of 32 points was good enough to finish in the money.
Garfield’s two star golfers showcased why; with Chris Thorn scoring an eagle on the 17th whilst his nemesis Tym Davey did likewise on the 10th.
After getting her hole in one on Sunday Van Der Horst paired up with Jeanette Mitchell to win the ladies fourball on Tuesday with a round of 44 points whilst also adding the three nearest the pins to her prize pool.
Monday was a game of single par and was attended by a field of 56 with a total of seven players matching or bettering their handicap for the day.
Tim Gargan, a visitor from Warragul, had the best of it by winning the A Grade event with his round of + 3 whilst the best in for the B Grade event was Phil Caswell with a score of -1.
Rob Nobelius scored a pair of nearest the pins on the 4th and 8th holes.
The West Gippy Vets Tour arrived at Drouin on April 17 where a field of 93 turned out for the regular stableford event played on a course in great condition followed up by a superb meal.
The scores were of a high standard with a final outcome of 34 points needed to finish in the money.
There’s not a lot to mention of our members except for 83-year-old John Roberts getting a nearest the pin of which he duly converted.
The next Vet’s event is at Warragul on May 12 whilst a West Gippy verses South Gippy event is at Lang Lang on June 2.

Finally, there is a notice in the Club House for the Ultimate Fiji Golf Cup to be held on the 10 to 15 of December for your interest.
This Saturday is the first round of the club’s Four Ball Par Championship for your consideration to enter.
