AudioClinic in Berwick has launched the test as part of Hearing Awareness Week.
The free telephone hearing check allows the general public to check their own hearing over the telephone from home.
AudioClinic official Kylie Luiten Hand said: “We’re very excited to be launching the free telephone hearing check for Hearing Awareness Week.”
“The services provide an easy way for people to get a better understanding of their hearing from home,” she said.
The free telephone hearing check takes about four minutes, and asks the caller to identify spoken words in various levels of background noise.
“The telephone hearing check is a good first step in identifying a hearing problem that may need clinical treatment,” Ms Hand said.
“It’s important that awareness of hearing health is raised in the community and that’s what Hearing Awareness Week is all about.”
Casey mayor Colin Butler helped launch the free Telephone Hearing Check and is encouraging local residents to re-think their hearing health.
“It’s important that everyone takes their hearing health seriously and takes steps to ensure that this important aspect of their wellbeing is not neglected,” Mr Butler said.
Those who feel they may be suffering from hearing loss are encouraged to take the hearing check by calling 1800 731 447 toll free.
