Kambrya College students Courtney James and Michelle Cheng will soon be studying at the University of Melbourne.
TWO Kambrya College students have been accepted into Melbourne University’s prestigious Young Scholars program.
Year 12 students Courtney James and Michelle Cheng were selected by a committee of university academics on the basis of school nominations in several categories.
Catching the eye of the judges was the girls’ ranking in the top 5 per cent of their year level in academic performance as well as demonstrating leadership potential, active citizenship and community involvement.
Principal Ian McKenzie said he was proud to announce the achievement of the school’s two students.
Mr McKenzie said the pair were among 700 of the state’s top VCE students chosen from schools present at the inaugural Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars event held at Melbourne University’s Parkville campus.
“This program guarantees these students a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) into any course offered by the University of Melbourne. This program can therefore help as a very large incentive for these young scholars to excel in their Year 12 studies,” Mr McKenzie said.
Both Michelle and Courtney said they were amazed by the fantastic facilities and teaching staff they have already encountered and can’t wait to join the University of Melbourne society.
“The school community is immensely proud of the girls, especially as Kambrya continues to reach significant milestones on the road to its first Year 12 cohort about to leave school,” Mr McKenzie said.
