Christmas flick connects community

A residential community in Officer hosted their first ‘Movie in the Park’ event over the weekend, bringing residents together for some Christmas joy after years of lockdown-riddled holidays, for an outdoor movie experience featuring some very special guests.

The event, held at Hillstowe by AVID Property Group in Officer, hosted a total of 250 residents in their extensive greenspaces, to enjoy a very merry movie as well as a special visit from Santa and his elves.

AVID Victoria project director Danny Boubli said he was thrilled to bring the community together for the holiday season.

“Many residents saw the event as a way to kick off their Christmas celebrations and form positive and lasting connections with neighbours. The neighbourhood kids also loved meeting our special guests, Santa and his elves, which was a joy to see,” said Mr Boubli.

“Fostering community spirit is crucial. Although many residents are all settled in, Hillstowe is still growing, and we want newer residents to be able to experience the vibrancy of this neighbourhood.”

After two Christmases were impacted by Covid-19, Mr Boubli said the movie night was designed to support the community to get outdoors and socialising once more.

“Residents who moved in during the pandemic haven’t had many opportunities to connect with their neighbours. Events like these really help to create and support these important local connections.

“I am so excited to see the positive effects in our Hillstowe community, following this wonderful face to face event,” said Mr Boubli.

Hillstowe’s event was held at its Hillstowe Central Park which opened earlier this year, providing residents with an architecturally designed play area and community greenspace.

The Hillstowe ‘Movie in the Park’ night was a free resident event which featured the film Elf on the big screen.
