The Pakenham community will be able to celebrate its diverse cultures thanks to State Government funding.
Two Pakenham organisations are among recipients of 897 grants announced on 16 October through the government’s Multicultural Festivals and Events Programs.
According to the government, the grants were approved for events that foster cross-cultural awareness, understanding and respect, and ensure that Victoria’s multicultural communities can celebrate, preserve and share traditions in meaningful ways.
Living Learning Pakenham will receive $3500 towards their music, dance and food event “Celebrating Multiculturalism” at the Pakenham Show on 17 March.
Pakenham Springs Primary School was also announced as a recipient, and has been granted $800 towards a March 2018 event showcasing the performing arts of Japan.
Member for Eastern Victoria Region Daniel Mulino welcomed the funding.
“Events and festivals are more than just fun activities and shows. They give us the opportunity to come together and be as one as a community,” Mr Mulino said.
“I’m delighted Cardinia will continue to get a chance to do just that.”
More than 1000 applications were submitted from both new and established community groups, spanning metropolitan and regional Victoria.
All applications were assessed on merit by an independent panel, with the Victorian Multicultural Commission playing a key role.
