Look for leaders

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

PAKENHAM Girl Guides are on the hunt for new leaders after being awarded a training grant from Cardinia Shire Council.
The group has received $1963.40 towards supporting the growth of Girl Guides in the Cardinia Shire, in particular to appropriately train leaders.
Girl Guides Victoria District manager Heidi Gilbert said the program provided girls with unique experiences.
“It’s a great opportunity to become involved in the community and support girls in learning new skills,” she said.
“Guides is a real mix of development and fun.
“We take girls on camps throughout the year, and we find that they really enjoy the experiences offered.”
Ms Gilbert said young women interested in education or the outdoors would be particularly suited to the role.
“We’re looking for women who are great with kids and willing to experience new things.
“It is a very rewarding role,” she said.
“We do have one lady who is currently training in Pakenham, however once leaders are trained, we are happy for them to set up in other suburbs within the Cardinia Shire if viable.”
The funding includes provisions for unit leader training and outdoor and indoor camping qualifications, which will be provided to incoming leaders free of charge.
The Guides meet every week and attend three or four camps throughout the year.
